The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors (BOS) has announced the approval of Title III fund allocations at their December 6 meeting.
Following changes last year to a reimbursement-based system, the Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management (YCOEM) reported no disqualifications, allowing all applicants to receive a preliminary award. This necessitated the creation of a scale based on application scores to determine final fund allocations due to limited funding.
Applications were screened and reviewed by the Office of Emergency Management and scored based on a rubric.  Their recommendations were provided to the Board of Supervisors for preliminary approval. The Board of Supervisors reviewed the Office of Emergency Management's recommendations, approved the recommendations, and a 45-day public comment period was observed before making the final decisions on the allocations.
In the coming week, the BOS Office will be emailing out packets to all awarded parties. These packets will provide detailed information on the allocations and the next steps for the awarded projects.
Projects have been approved across four essential categories:
1. Firewise Communities Program: Education and assistance for homeowners in fire-sensitive ecosystems to reduce wildfire risks.
2. Reimbursement for Emergency Services on Federal Land: Providing reimbursements to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office for services on federal land.
3. Training and Equipment for Emergency Services: Funding for training and equipment directly related to emergency services.
4. Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP): Projects focused on wildfire risk reduction, including hazardous fuels reduction and community volunteer workdays.
Despite all applicants receiving preliminary awards, one Homeowners Association (HOA) chose to decline their award.
The BOS's decision reflects a strong commitment to enhancing Yavapai County's emergency preparedness and response capabilities. The inclusive and comprehensive nature of this process demonstrates the Board's dedication to building a safer, more resilient community.
