Prescott, AZ, January 9, 2024- Beginning this week, contractors will be using heavy equipment to thin approximately 1.153 acres on the 169 South Mastication project (Verde Ranger District) and the Ranch Mastication project (Bradshaw Ranger District).  Work is expected to be completed on or before August 31, 2024.

No area or road closures are expected; however, we ask the public to avoid the project areas when equipment is operating. Approaching such equipment is very dangerous as the operator may not see you.

Mechanical thinning has proven to be an effective restoration and management tool. Completion of this project will improve the health and resiliency of fire-adapted ecosystems; restore watersheds, rangelands, and wildlife habitat; and reduce hazardous fuels that pose a threat to life and property in the wildland-urban interface.
