Public Safety Notice Changing Conditions at Senator Mine Site

Published on June 03, 2024

During a recent inspection conducted at the Senator Mine legacy mine site, also known as 570 Adit Waste/Tailings, near Senator Highway in the Bradshaw Mountains, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) observed changing physical conditions on this private property that present a risk to public safety. We are monitoring the situation closely.

Features at this legacy mine site, including adits, shafts, tailings, and waste rock, may be unstable and dangerous.

The Senator Mine site is private property and unauthorized visits may be considered trespassing, which is illegal and dangerous.

ADEQ advises community members to stay away from the site and to report any observed changes to azpdes@azdeq.gov or 602-771-1440.

ADEQ further warns community members to never enter a mine opening and avoid contact with tailings and waste rock.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation in the interest of your safety.
