The Route 66 Brownfield Assessment Program is a $1.5 million grant initiative funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Managed by the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG), this program brings together Coconino, Mohave, Navajo, and Yavapai counties to transform underutilized properties into community assets. With the help of an environmental consulting team led by Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., the program supports environmental assessments and cleanup planning activities for publicly and privately-owned properties across the four counties.

The program's main objective is to revitalize neighborhoods and bring new life to communities along Route 66 and within Yavapai County. By identifying and assessing potentially contaminated sites, developing cleanup plans, and engaging with local communities, the program aims to improve environmental quality, support economic development, and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the area. Through this collaborative effort, the Route 66 Brownfield Assessment Program seeks to turn liabilities into assets, ultimately contributing to the region's growth and sustainability.
