Supervisor Nikki Check
Nikki Check is a second-generation Arizonan born and raised in Yavapai County. Nikki grew up in Prescott, spent her teenage years in Chino Valley, and moved to the Verde Valley in 2008. Nikki currently lives in Jerome with her young son Ryan.
Nikki studied agriculture at both Yavapai College and Prescott College which led to a career in the Verde Valley wine industry. She started as a field laborer in 2008 and moved into a vineyard manager role with Merkin Vineyards. Shortly thereafter, she began teaching vineyard courses at Yavapai College, became the founding director of the Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College, and helped many people establish vineyards throughout the state through her business Arizona Vineyard Consulting.
Nikki has been a long-time local leader dedicated to providing public service, fiscal accountability, and sustainable economic development. In October of 2011, Nikki was appointed to the Jerome Town Council and in the following spring election she served as Mayor of Jerome for a term of two and a half years. In 2016, she made a run for the State Senate, nearly winning the Legislative District 6 seat. Nikki has also served on several non-profit boards including the former Verde River Basin Partnership (now Friends of the Verde River), The Verde Valley Wine Consortium, and the Verde Valley Forum for Public Affairs. As Mayor, Nikki was appointed to serve on the Yavapai County Intergovernmental Water Advisory Committee. She is a 2012 (class IV) Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy Fellow.
Nikki is passionate about serving as Yavapai County Supervisor, solving problems collaboratively, and engaging residents in the public process so that our local government continues to work for us.
