National County Government Month

Published on April 08, 2025

Yavapai County is proud to announce its participation in National County Government Month (NCGM) throughout April, a time to raise awareness about the roles and responsibilities of county government and its impact on the lives of residents. This year’s celebration is particularly special as Yavapai County has partnered with local high schools to also recognize Student Government Day, introduced this year to foster civic engagement among the county’s youth.

National County Government Month is an annual observance by the National Association of Counties (NACo) to highlight the essential services that counties provide, from public safety and infrastructure to health and human services. Yavapai County is committed to transparency and engaging with its citizens to ensure these services effectively meet the community's needs.

“We are excited to celebrate National County Government Month and showcase the vital work our dedicated county employees do every day to serve the residents of Yavapai County,” said Chair of the Board of Supervisors Mary Mallory. “This year, we are especially thrilled to collaborate with our local high schools for Student Government Month. Engaging young people in understanding the importance of civic participation is crucial for the future of our community.”

Throughout April, Yavapai County will be highlighting various county departments and initiatives through its website and social media channels. This partnership with local high schools will involve One-On-One opportunities to spend half a day with a Yavapai County Elected Officials or Department Directors and learn what it means to be a leader in a local government. The goal is to provide students with a firsthand look at how local government functions and encourage their active involvement in civic life.

Yavapai County also invites the public to mark their calendars for the inaugural State of the County address, which will take place on September 16, 2025. This important event will provide a comprehensive overview of the county’s accomplishments, ongoing projects, and future priorities. More details regarding the date, time, and location of the State of the County address will be released in the coming months.

To further enhance public understanding of county government, Yavapai County has produced an informative video highlighting its key functions and services. Residents are encouraged to watch this video, which is now available on the Yavapai County YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/3cIprrazTQ4.

“We believe it’s important for our residents to understand how their county government works for them,” added Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Brooks Compton. “We encourage everyone to watch our County Government Month video and learn more about the services we provide. We also look forward to sharing our progress and future plans at the State of the County address in September.”

Yavapai County encourages all residents to take this opportunity to learn more about their county government and the vital role it plays in the community.
