Winter Driving Safety: A Message from Yavapai County Public Works

Published on January 01, 2025

Your safety is our top priority. This winter, please keep these tips in mind to stay safe on the roads:
  • Slow Down and Increase Following Distance: Reduce your speed and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
  • Prepare Your Vehicle: Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, fueled up, and equipped with:
    • Ice scraper
    • Shovel
    • Abrasive material (kitty litter or sand)
    • Jumper cables
    • Flashlight or warning devices
    • Fully charged phone and charger
    • Food, water, blankets, and warm clothing

Remember snowplows come in many different forms such as 10 wheelers, mini dumps, loaders, and motor graders. For their safety and yours, please give them plenty of room and stay back. Our dedicated snowplow drivers work tirelessly to keep our roads safe so please:

    • Stay Back: Give snowplows plenty of room.
    • Don’t Pass: The road surface behind a plow is safer than in front.
    • Clear the Way: Keep driving lanes and shoulders clear for plows to maneuver.

For more detailed information, including how we prioritize the vast number of roads we plow, please visit the Snowplowing link on the Yavapai County Public Works Roads Division website. Yavapai County Public Works Roads Division website.

If we all work together, we can make this a safe and enjoyable winter season.
