A sincere greeting to all of you,
August has arrived, and right out of the gate, we kicked off the month with a special meeting on August 3, 2026, at 9:00 AM. The Board of Supervisors canvassed the primary election results, and now our focus shifts to the upcoming General Election. As always, we deeply appreciate everyone who stepped up to run—it is no small feat to put yourself out there.
As we move toward November, I cannot stress enough how vital it is to VOTE. Having the opportunity to run for office and the freedom to cast a vote is both a gift and a privilege. We saw a very low turnout for the primary, so let's aim to do much better for the General Election!
I also want to remind everyone that we still have a few spots available for our Citizens Academy. You can use the link below to sign up. If you run into any issues, please reach out to me directly and I will gladly assist you. This program is a wonderful opportunity to learn about county operations and meet department directors along with your local elected officials.
Further down in the newsletter, you will find the link for the 9/11 Prescott Valley Healing Field. This year marks the 15th anniversary of this deeply moving event. We are looking for volunteers to help with setup—which involves many moving parts—as well as assistance throughout the week and during take-down. Please click the link below to sign up and lend a hand.
Additionally, we have an update on the State of the County address, and I look forward to seeing everyone there! We listened to your feedback from last year and made several adjustments, including lowering the ticket cost. Please register and join us for our second annual event.
In closing, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who reached out and sent wonderful cards that brought a smile to my face after my July newsletter. I feel truly blessed by this community. As always, if there is ever anything I can do to help with questions, concerns, or county issues, I am just a phone call away.
Sincerely,
Mary
Vote YES on Proposition 497 and LOWER your property taxes!
As a citizen of Yavapai County and a Yavapai County Supervisor since July 15, 2019, I have learned through every budget cycle how critical it is to support the Yavapai County Jail District.
Established on July 28, 1999, the Yavapai County Jail District funding ensures the safety, welfare, and security of our residents. Public safety is the single most vital responsibility of county government.
I have always been firmly committed to conservative fiscal management and transparency. Revenue generated by the jail district tax is strictly dedicated to public safety operations. This ensures that Sheriff David Rhodes retains the operational capacity necessary to keep dangerous offenders off our streets.
I urge our community members to support this vital investment in local public safety. The jail district tax benefits all local law enforcement agencies across our communities by relieving cities and towns of the burden of funding county jail systems.
Please join me in voting YES on Proposition 497 and lowering your property taxes on November 3, 2026.
Sincerely,
Mary Mallory
Yavapai County Supervisor
The Board of Directors of the Yavapai County Jail District asks the voters of Yavapai County for approval to increase the existing Jail District excise (sales) tax 1/4 of a cent ($0.0025) per dollar. The existing 1/4 cent Jail District sales tax is not sufficient to pay the cost of the Jail District. The estimated future revenue needs for the Jail District are $41.44 million per year and will likely increase over time due to inflation and population growth. The County will be required to contribute $8.88 million next year to the Jail District from the County General Fund as legally required "maintenance of effort," and will need to contribute an additional $16.15 million from the County General Fund to pay the cost of the Jail District. If approved, this tax will take effect on July 1, 2027, and will continue for a period of twenty years.
Shall the Yavapai County Jail District excise (sales) tax be increased up to ¼ of a cent ($0.0025) per dollar to fund the Jail District.
A “YES” vote would have the effect of approving an increase in the Jail District excise tax of up to ¼ of a cent ($0.0025) per dollar.
A “NO” vote would have the effect of rejecting up to ¼ of a cent ($0.0025) increase in the Jail District excise tax per dollar.
