Health Start

What is the Arizona Health Start Program?

The Health Start Program provides home based educational and support services to pregnant and postpartum women and their babies. Our Community Health Workers (CHW’s) are highly qualified and have specialty-based training, certifications, and relevant degrees in maternal and early childhood development. They offer developmental and health screenings, and provide education on prenatal care, breastfeeding, infant care, parenting, and nutrition. CHW’s connect families to vital community resources such as WIC, AHCCCS, and health care.

Why is it needed?

The goals of the Health Start Program are to; reduce childhood diseases, reduce low birth weights, increase perinatal depression awareness, increase prenatal and postnatal care, increase on-time child vaccinations, and encourage healthy family habits and preventative health care.

Who is eligible?

Anyone who is pregnant, postpartum, or a caretaker of a child under the age of 2 (child must be under the age of 18 month to enroll) and resides in Yavapai County.

Is there a cost?

No, the Health Start Program is free to families. There is also no income limit to participate in the Health Start program!
